Upright Edwardian Piano

#A009      40” x 50” x 5”      85lbs.

Detail 1

This was a very challenging project and more at the end of my woodworking period.

Piano was juried into the prestigious Sacramento State Art Fair and was a finalist winning second place in mixed media assemblage. My idea was to create volume and perspective while limiting the total depth to four inches; a wall hanging bas-relief hanging piano.

The components are all antique sourced objects: vintage ivory keys, antique oak bric-a-brac, sheet music, barley twist legs, silver Rogers spoons for pedals, antique peonies, and the silk tapestry background is a gorgeous kaleidoscope of color.

I hope it reads like a period-correct piano capable of being played. (Trompe-l’oeil… to fool the eye.)
